Superior Oil granted corn oil extraction patent

By Superior Oil | February 26, 2015

Superior Oil, a national full line manufacturer and distributor of chemical and solvents, was awarded a U.S. patent for its innovative approach to extracting corn oil from the ethanol production processes. Superior’s U.S. Patent No. 8,962,059 provides for improved techniques for maximizing the extraction of corn oil during post-fermentation operations. This technology is an important advance for ethanol producers that will result in increased revenues from ethanol production operations.

“Superior’s patented process will provide significant advantages to our current and future customers,” said Chris Froderman, an inventor of the patented technology and Superior’s manager of performance chemicals. “Our technology will allow producers to achieve cost-effective increases in corn oil extraction enhancing overall profitability. Superior is excited about this patent and the positive impact our technology will have on our customers and licensees.  As an added benefit, our product is manufactured under food grade conditions and the ingredients have been used in animal and human foods for decades.”

Superior Oil also immediately commenced an action against Solenis LLC and Solenis L.P. to establish that Superior’s patented invention predates Solenis’s patent on this technology. The lawsuit, Superior Oil v. Solenis Technologies L.P., and Solenis, LLC 1:15-cv-00183-UNA, seeks judicial confirmation of Superior Oil’s earlier invention and the invalidation of the corresponding patent claims held by Solenis in U.S. Patent No. 8,841,469. Superior Oil expects to prevail in this lawsuit and establish that Superior Oil has the exclusive rights to license this technology.

The invention allows corn-to-ethanol producers to significantly increase their corn oil yield. Superior Oil has worked closely with customers and achieved greatly enhanced efficiencies and corn oil yield. Superior Oil has extensive know-how, backed by its substantial investments in research, to optimize the extraction of corn oil over a wide range of process variables. Superior Oil is committed to working with its customers to find the right extraction solution to fit their unique needs.
