DENCO II, an ethanol plant in Morris, Minnesota, has received grant money it will use to improve the facility’s energy efficiency.

“We just authorized them to bid it,” said Blaine Hill, Morris city manager.

The 24 MMgy plant in Morris, Minnesota, is installing a fermenter, hammer mill and expanding its cooling tower, he said. The Minnesota Department of Economic Development awarded DENCO II a $750,000 grant which will be run through the city of Morris, Hill said.

This is the second DEED grant DENCO II has received. The first was for wastewater treatment improvement.

The total cost of the current project will be at least $1.5 million, Hill estimated. DENCO II will be responsible for maintaining the new equipment, but the city will own the own the equipment for about 12 years before DENCO II will assume ownership. The project is expected to be completed by spring 2016, Hill said.
