China Ramps Up Toxic MTBE Use

By | July 01, 2003
As first reported by SinoCast (July 15), China's MTBE industry is apparently growing rapidly, experiencing a one million-ton production increase while many U.S. states are banning the water-fouling oxygenate. The MTBE scare in the United States will have "little downside" on the MTBE market of Europe and Asia in the near future, Hao Xingren, secretary general of China MTBE Cooperation Center, told reporters. So far, SinoCast reported, no signs of banning MTBE in Europe and Asia have been seen. According Xingren's forecast, growth will be seen in the Asian MTBE market for up to ten years.
