CSX, Norfolk Southern announce chemical safety awards

CSX Corp. and Norfolk Southern railway announced winners of their respective 2015 chemical safety awards in early April. Several ethanol producers were named among the 78 honored by CSX and the 60 by Norfolk Southern.

The 22nd annual CSX Chemical Safety Excellence Award recognizes customers who successfully ship more than 600 carloads of hazardous materials throughout the year without fault.Ethanol companies recognized for their safety excellence this year included: Aventine, Cardinal Ethanol LLC, Green Plains Renewable Energy, Louis Dreyfus Commodities LLC, Poet Ethanol Products, Cargill and CHS.

“CSX’s commitment to safety—for our customers, our employees and the communities we serve—is the foundation of the decisions we make every day,” said Skip Elliott, vice president, public safety, health and environment. “We’re honored to work with customers who share this value as we deliver safe, reliable rail service to move their important products around the country.”

Norfolk Southern has recognizes chemical manufacturers and plants who ship at least 1,000 carloads of hazardous materials by rail without an incident. Ethanol companies recognized for their excellence this year include Abengoa Bioenergy, Flint Hill Resources LP, Granite Falls Energy LLC, Green Plains Inc., Louis Dreyfus Commodities, One Earth Energy LLC, Pacific Ethanol Pekin, Poet Ethanol Products, Renewable Products Marketing Group, Siouxland Energy and Livestock Cooperative, Southwest Iowa Renewable Energy LLC and Valero Energy Corp.
