USDA: Corn use for ethanol down in April

The USDA recently released the June edition of its Grain Crushing and Co-Products Production report, noting total corn consumed for alcohol and other uses was 445 million bushels in April, down 8 percent from March and down 4 percent from April 2015.

April 2016 usage included 90.2 percent for alcohol and 9.8 percent for other purposes. Corn for fuel alcohol was 392 million bushels, down 9 percent from March and down 4 percent from April 2015. Corn consumed in April for dry milling fuel production was 89.2 percent, with 10.8 percent consumed for wet milling fuel production.

Dry million production of condensed distillers grains with solubles was 130,324 tons, down from 137,396 ton in March and 140,171 tons in April 2015. Corn oil production was 110,439 tons, down from 125,510 tons in March, but up from 101,614 tons in April 2015. Distillers dried grains production was 374,750 tons in April, down from 384,739 tons in March and down from 411,664 tons in April of the prior year. Distillers dried grains with solubles production was 1.7 million tons, down from 1.92 million tons in April, but up from 1.66 million tons in April 2015. Distillers wet grains production was 1.26 million tons, down from 1.32 million tons in March and down from 1.33 million tons in April of the previous year. Modified distillers wet grains production was 426,558 tons, down from 465,256 tons in March, but up from 387,155 tons in April 2015.

Wet mill corn germ meal production was 67,530 tons, down from 68,140 tons in March and 61,922 tons in April 2015. Corn gluten feed production was 306,464 tons, down from 342,668 tons in March and 313,889 tons in April 2015. Corn gluten meal production was 84,916 tons, down from 91,945 tons in March and 89,356 tons in April of the previous year. Corn oil production reached 51,455 tons, up from 51,415 tons in March and 42,998 tons in April 2015. Wet corn gluten feed 40 to 60 percent moisture was 301,283 tons, up from 290,564 tons in March and 314,047 tons in April 2015.

Carbon dioxide captured at dry and wet mills was 199,101 tons, down from 204,371 tons in March and 209,505 tons in April 2015.

Sorghum consumed for fuel alcohol production was at 7.34 million hundredweight (cwt) (410,872 tons), down from 9.98 million cwt in March.
