USDA: Corn consumed for fuel ethanol up in December

The USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service has released the February edition of its Grain Crushings and Co-Products Production report, noting total corn consumed for alcohol and other uses reached 529 million bushels in December, up 5 percent from the same month of 2015. Corn use for fuel alcohol reached 477 million bushels, up 6 percent from November and up 6 percent when compared to December 2015. Corn consumed for wet milling fuel production was at 89.7 percent, with 10.3 percent going to wet milling fuel production.

Sorghum consumption for fuel alcohol at dry mill facilities reached 5.42 million hundredweight (cwt) (253,232 tons) in December, up from 4.91 million cwt in November, but down from 7.62 million cwt in December 2015.

At dry mill facilities, condensed distillers solubles production was at 138,747 tons in December, up from 126,968 tons in November and 134,196 tons in December 2015. Corn oil production was at 143,942 tons, down from 147,336 tons in November, but up from 130,652 tons in December of the previous year. Distillers dried grain production was at 442,824 tons, up from 423,892 tons in November and 423,632 tons in December 2015. Distillers dried grains with solubles production reached nearly 2.1 million tons, up from nearly 2 million tons in November and 1.94 million tons during the final month of 2015. Distillers wet grains production reached 1.43 million tons, up from 1.28 million tons in November and 1.4 million tons in December 2015. Modified distillers wet grains production reached 434,337 tons, up from 389,038 tons in November, but down from 442,448 tons in December 2015/

At wet mills, corn germ meal production reached 63,600 tons in December, down from 63,635 tons in November and 69,669 tons in December 2015. Corn gluten feed production reached 349,226 tons, down from 309,305 tons in November and 340,460 tons in December of the previous year. Corn gluten meal production was at 58,248 tons, up from 49,393 tons in November and 57,578 tons in December 2015. Corn oil production reached 58,248 tons, up from 49,393 tons in November and 57,578 tons in December of the previous year. Wet corn gluten feed production was at 279,044 tons, down from 326,550 tons in November and 307,874 tons in December 2015.

Carbon dioxide captured at dry and wet mills was at 201,534 tons in December, down from 213,244 tons in November and 211,352 tons in December 2015.
