The U.S. EPA has released renewable identification number (RIN) generation data for May, reporting more than 1.66 billion RINs were generated during the month, including nearly 21.98 million cellulosic RINs.

Nearly 21.97 million D3 cellulosic RINs were generated in May, bringing the net total for the first five months of the year to 71.69 million. More than 3.24 million D3 RINs have been generated for ethanol so far this year, with 42.99 million generated for compressed natural gas and 25.76 million generated for renewable liquefied natural gas. More than 63.14 million D3 RINs have been generated domestically, with 8.58 million generated by importers.

No D7 cellulosic diesel RINs have been generated so far this year.

Nearly 13.34 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated in May, bringing the net total for the first five months of the year to 36.01 million. Nearly 18.81 million D5 RINs have been generated for ethanol, with 12.93 million generated for naptha, 936,213 generated for heating oil and 3.34 million generated for nonester renewable diesel. More than 27.56 million D5 RINs have been generated domestically, with 8.46 million generated by importers.

More than 1.27 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated in May, bringing the net total for the first five months of the year to 6.14 billion. Most, 6.05 billion, were generated for ethanol, with 101.72 million generated for nonester renewable diesel. Nearly 6.05 billion D6 RINs have been generated domestically, with 4.9 million generated by importers and 101.72 million generated by foreign entities.

More than 355.65 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in May, bringing the net total for the first five months of the year to 1.33 billion. The majority, 1.02 billion, were generated for biodiesel, with 312.17 million generated for nonester renewable diesel, and 1.15 million generated for renewable jet fuel. Nearly 958.85 million D4 RINs have been generated domestically, with 227.1 million generated by importers and 145.33 million generated by foreign entities.

As of the end of May, the EPA estimates 7.59 billion RINs  have been generated so far this year, with 215.75 million retired, 249.03 million locked and available, and 7.13 billion unlocked and available.
