USDA: 455 million bushels of corn consumed for ethanol in July

The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service has released the September edition of its Grain Crushings and Co-Products Production report, announcing total corn consumed for alcohol and other uses reached 509 million bushels in July, up 4 percent from June, but down slightly when compared to July 2016.

Corn for fuel alcohol reached 455 million bushels, up 5 percent from June, but down slightly from July 2016. Corn consumed for dry milling fuel production was 90.7 percent, with corn consumed for wet milling fuel production reaching 9.34 percent.

Sorghum consumed for fuel alcohol production reached 5.33 million hundredweight (cwt) (298,592 tons) in July, up from 4.75 million cwt in June, but down slightly from 5.98 million cwt in July 2016.

At dry mill plants, condensed distillers solubles production reached 142,865 tons, up from 125,677 tons in June and 140,639 tons in July 2016. Corn oil production reached 157,669 tons, up from 146,531 tons in June and 144,020 tons in July 2016. Distillers dried grains production reached 471,124 tons, down slightly from 471,492 tons in June, but up from 404,758 tons in July of the previous year. Distillers dried grains with solubles production reached 1.92 million tons, up from 1.8 million tons in June, but down from 2.05 million tons in July 2016. Distillers wet grains production reached 1.34 million tons, up from 1.27 million tons in June and 1.23 million tons in July 2016. Modified distillers wet grains production reached 423,728 tons, down from 431,035 tons in June, but up from 359,613 tons in July 2016.

At wet mills, corn germ meal production reached 57,952 tons, down from 59,384 tons in June, and 65,032 tons in July 2016. Corn gluten feed production reached 328,031 tons, down from 341,215 tons in June and 339,700 tons in July of the previous year. Corn gluten meal production reached 85,087 tons, down from 86,806 tons in June and 89,125 tons in July 2016. Wet corn gluten feed production reached 272,165 tons, down from 297,780 tons in June and 331,949 tons in July 2106.

At wet and dry mill plants, carbon dioxide captured reached 207,049 tons, down from 217,863 tons in June and 230,934 tons in July 2016.
