Corn use for fuel ethanol reaches 463 million bushels in June

The USDA recently released the August edition of its Grain Crushings and Co-Products Production report, noting corn consumed for fuel alcohol production reached 463 million bushels in June, down 2 percent from May, but up 5 percent from June 2017. Corn consumed for dry milling fuel production and wet milling fuel production was 91.1 and 8.9 percent, respectively.

Total corn consumed for alcohol and other uses reached 517 million bushels in June, down 1 percent from May, but up 6 percent from June 2017. June usage included 91.2 percent for alcohol and 8.8 percent for other purposes. Corn consumed for beverage alcohol reached 3.12 million bushels, up 7 percent from May and up 13 percent from June.

Sorghum consumed for fuel alcohol production reached 4.268 million hundredweight (cwt) (239,008 tons) in June, down from 4.861 million cwt in June 2017. Sorghum consumption for fuel ethanol was not reported for May.

At dry mill plants, condensed distillers solubles production reached 140,033 tons in June, up from 137,929 tons in May and 125,677 tons in June 2017. Corn oil production reached 160,521 tons, up from 159,718 tons in May and 146,584 tons in June of the previous year. Distillers dried grains production reached 374,274 tons, down from 392,070 tons in May and 435,900 tons in June 2017. Distillers dried grains with solubles production reached 2.02 million tons, up from 1.97 tons in May and 1.85 tons in June of the previous year. Distillers wet grains production reached 1.28 million tons, down from 1.4 tons in May and up slightly from the 1.28 million tons produced in June 2017. Modified distillers wet grains production reached 403,381 tons in June, down from 467,398 tons in May and 431,035 tons in June of the previous year.

At wet mills, corn germ meal production reached 61,405 tons in June, down from 62,146 tons in May, but up from 59,384 tons in June 2017. Corn gluten feed production reached 301,896 tons, up from 291,542 tons in May, but down from 341,215 tons in June of the previous year. Corn gluten meal production reached 93,257 tons in June, up from 92,487 tons in May and 86,806 tons in June 2017. Wet corn gluten feed production reached 262,168 tons in June, down from 280,979 tons in May and 297,780 tons during the same month of last year.

At dry and wet mills, carbon dioxide captured reached 241,457 tons in June, up from 214,508 tons in May and 217,863 tons in June 2017.
