OPINION: Growth Energy hosts E15 retailers at annual retreat

By Mike O’Brien, Growth Energy vice president of market development | September 04, 2019

Representatives from Growth Energy’s senior leadership team were in Brainerd, Minnesota last week for the fifth-annual Prime the Pump retreat where more than 20 representatives from our retail partners and affiliates gathered to discuss the latest trends in the convenience store space. Key topics for discussion included the current retail landscape for higher ethanol blends like E15, as well as how to further drive continued E15 retail expansion now that Reid Vapor Pressure (RVP) relief has been granted. Growth Energy and the Prime the Pump team have led the charge on facilitating greater consumer access for higher ethanol blends which has delivered significant retail infrastructure build out and availability for E15, and the annual Prime the Pump retreat is meant to ensure that the positive growth trend continues.

Our Prime the Pump retreat provides a unique opportunity for retailers connect and share ideas on how to grow E15 sales. It also allows Growth Energy to hear directly from our Prime the Pump partners to that our market development strategy reflects the most pressing needs for our retail partners and to collaborate on our continued efforts to expand the E15 footprint. The decisions made during the retreat set the tone for the next year and allow us and these leading retailers to work hand-in-hand toward the same goals.

Growth Energy’s retail partners are the leading independent convenience stores in the country with the average station selling nearly one in every seven gallons of fuel sold in the United States. This year, senior executives from Casey’s, Thorntons, Sheetz, Minnoco, Bosslemans, Protec Fuels, Kum & Go, Delek, Family Express, Zarco USA, Southeast Petroleum, and Nuvu Fuels joined ethanol industry leaders at the retreat. GasBuddy’s Vice President of Midwest Sales, Scott Thompson was also on hand to walk through our newest partnership to help drivers find the most affordable choice at the pump with Unleaded 88 through GasBuddy’s app.
