EPA: 32.68 million cellulosic RINs generated in November

The USDA has released renewable identification number (RIN) generation data for November, reporting that nearly 1.45 billion RINs were generated during the month, including 32.68 million cellulosic RINs.

More than 32.68 million D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs were generated in November, including 25.33 million generated for compressed renewable natural gas (RNG) by domestic producers, 4.1 million generated for liquefied RNG by domestic producers, 1.89 million generated for liquefied RNG by importers, 1.17 million generated for compressed RNG by importers, and 202,030 generated for cellulosic ethanol by domestic producers.

Total D3 RIN generation for the first 11 months of the year reached 343.57 million. That volume includes 263.21 million generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers, 41.28 million generated for liquefied RNG by domestic producers, 20.16 million generated for liquefied RNG by importers, 9.31 million generated for compressed RNG by importers, 5.35 million generated for cellulosic ethanol by domestic producers and 4.26 million generated for cellulosic ethanol by importers.

No D7 cellulosic diesel RINs were generated in November. Total generation for the first 11 months of the year, however, reached nearly 1.32 million, all of which was generated for cellulosic heating oil by importers.

Nearly 15.42 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated in November, including 6.82 million generated for ethanol by importers, 3.34 million generated for naphtha by domestic producers, 2.89 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 1.7 million generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 403,680 generated for LPG by domestic producers, and 270,738 generated for renewable heating oil by domestic producers.

Total D5 RIN generation for the first 11 months of the year reached 277.8 million. That volume includes 165.43 million generated for ethanol by importers, 51.98 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 32.19 million generated for naphtha by domestic producers, 21.75 million generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 3.52 million generated for LPG by domestic producers, 2.87 million generated for renewable heating oil by domestic producers, and 67,289 generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers.

More than 1.21 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated in November, including 1.19 billion generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 22.28 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, and 1.03 million generated for ethanol by importers.

Total D6 RIN generation for the first 11 months of the year reached 13.62 billion. That volume includes 13.42 billion generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 181.15 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, 12.35 million generated for ethanol by importers and 16,767 generated for biodiesel by domestic producers.

More than 309.18 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in November, including 178.67 million generated for biodiesel by domestic producers, 67.98 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 41.05 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, 21.34 million generated for biodiesel by importers, and 145,880 generated for renewable jet fuel by domestic producers.

Total D4 RIN generation for the first 11 months of the year reached 3.76 billion. That volume includes 2.36 billion generated for biodiesel by domestic producers, 693.38 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 464.58 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, 235.28 million generated for biodiesel by importers, 3.67 million generated for renewable jet fuel by domestic producers and 7,704 generated for renewable heating oil by domestic producers.

According to EPA data, nearly 18 billion RINs were generated during the first 11 months of 2019, compared to approximately 17.73 billion generated during the same period of 2018.
