In a brief ceremony at the World Headquarters of the American Red Cross in Washington, D.C., Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) President and CEO Bob Dinneen and BBI International CEO Mike Bryan presented a check for $60,100 to the Red Cross from the two organizations.

Kathryn Forbes, chair of the National Office of Volunteers for the American Red Cross, accepted the check. "Your support is the core of everything we do, enabling us to carry out a myriad of crucial services both at home and abroad," Forbes said. B. Susan Davis, senior officer for Strategic Fundraising and Major Gifts, also attended the ceremony on behalf of the Red Cross.

The RFA and BBI International each contributed $25,000 with the additional amount coming from several ethanol producers. "We are truly grateful for the work that the American Red Cross does," Dinneen said. "Without its immediate response in times of crisis, countless lives may be needlessly lost, and untold personal hardships incurred." RFA Communications Manager Kayt Wahlert and Legislative Director Matt Hartwig also attended the ceremony.

"Everyone at BBI wanted to do something to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina as well as show our general appreciation for the efforts of the American Red Cross," Bryan said. "It is with great pride that all the employees of BBI International supported this contribution."

In a letter from the American Red Cross, it stated the funds were divided equally between the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund and the International Relief Fund. The letter closed by saying, "We are deeply grateful for your shared belief in the importance of our mission. The need to alleviate suffering is endless, but as long as the need is there, the Red Cross will do whatever necessary to provide and hope. Disaster relief of every kind, biomedical research, blood supply maintenance and distribution, and community-based lifesaving courses are some of the ways in which the Red Cross fulfills its promise."
