Each year at the International Fuel Ethanol Workshop & Expo (FEW), event organizer BBI International announces winners of two special recognitions—the FEW award of Excellence (on even years and the Distriguished Service Award on odd years) and the winners of the FEW Scholarships. The 2006 Award of Excellence trophy and $1,000 check will be presented again at this year's FEW in Milwaukee, Wis., on June 20-23. Kathy Bryan, president of BBI International, created the award in 2000 to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the fuel ethanol industry through their research, technical advisory and/or development activities. The first Award of Excellence was presented to Raphael Katzen in 2000. Rodney Bothast received the award in 2002, and Dennis Vander Griend received it in 2004. Nominations for 2006 are now being solicited.

A selection committee of international representatives from ethanol production, academia, government agencies and associations reviews all nominations and selects the recipient. Nomination forms are available at www.bbibiofuels.com/few/award.
Likewise, individuals interested in careers in the ethanol industry are encouraged to apply now for the FEW Scholarship awarded each year at the ethanol industry's largest conference.

Once again, event organizer BBI International will award two educational scholarships—the FEW Operations Scholarship for individuals pursuing education leading toward a career in ethanol plant operations and the FEW Academia Scholarship for individuals pursuing education and/or research directly related to the ethanol industry.

Recipients will be awarded the $1,500 scholarship at the FEW. They also receive free registration and lodging during the conference. The FEW Scholarship Committee, composed of ethanol industry professionals, review all applications and select the recipients. For an application, visit www.bbibiofuels.com/scholarship.

The deadline for both award nominations and scholarship applications is May 1. Please contact Sue Conroe at sconroe@bbibiofuels
