New York seeks cellulosic ethanol plant

The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets issued in mid-June a request for proposals for the construction of a cellulosic ethanol pilot production facility in the state.

To be considered eligible, the proposed project must include the design, construction, commissioning and three-year operation of a pilot facility for the production of fuel-grade ethanol from lignocellulosic biomass feedstocks available in New York. A private corporation in the position to implement the commercialization plan must be a significant part of the team, preferably a proposer. As many as four may be selected for an award ranging from $5 million to $20 million.
