BlueFire Ethanol to build cellulosic biorefinery at landfill

BlueFire Ethanol Inc. identified an existing Waste Management landfill located in southern California as the initial site for its proposed 24 MMgy cellulosic ethanol conversion facility, according to a company press release. BlueFire submitted an application to the U.S. DOE to construct, build and operate the biorefinerywhich would process 700 tons of green waste and other cellulosic waste material per dayin order to commercialize its cellulosic ethanol technology. The company plans to locate cellulosic ethanol plants on landfills throughout North America.
