With 90 coalitions throughout America, the U.S. DOE Clean Cities program has displaced the equivalent of 375 million gallons of gasoline in 2006, according to a National Renewable Energy Laboratory report. It found that 71 percent of the gasoline displacement came from the use of alternative fuels, and the number of fuel stations that sold E85 doubled from 436 to 995 in 2005 and 2006, respectively.
