Poet CEO Jeff Lautt and Growth Energy’s Vice President of Development Kelly Manning have presented Sen. Tim Johnson, D-S.D, with the “Fueling Growth” award for his exceptional support of the ethanol industry. The award is given annually to the ethanol industry’s outstanding champions with an exceptional voting record in support of the biofuels industry.

Senator Johnson visited Poet’s headquarters in Sioux Falls to discuss the importance of renewable fuels, as well as receive a tour of their facility where much of their research and development takes place. Poet is a member company of Growth Energy, the largest trade association representing producers and supporters of ethanol.

“Senator Johnson is a longtime advocate on the national stage for renewable fuel,” Lautt said. “This award recognizes his contributions in helping biofuels bring new jobs and new income to South Dakota communities.”

“The ethanol industry is creating jobs and revitalizing rural America, improving our environment and reducing our dependence on foreign oil, all while saving consumers at the pump,” stated Tom Buis, CEO of Growth Energy. “Senator Johnson recognizes the important contributions of this industry in moving our nation forward and his continued support and advocacy is to be commended.”

“Senator Johnson has been a constant supporter of the biofuels industry, and I commend him on his continued engagement. His support is exemplified by a continued commitment to learning about the most recent breakthroughs and technological advancements, and his ongoing advocacy for South Dakota’s farm economy that plays an integral part in growing energy independence right here at home,” Buis continued.
