The U.S. EPA has published data on renewable identification numbers (RINs) generated in March. While no D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs were generated during the month, 8,332 D7 cellulosic diesel RINs were generated, representing the first cellulosic RINs of the year.

More than 1.03 D6 renewable fuel RINs were also generated in March, demonstrating a slight increase over January and February numbers. Slightly less than 1.03 D6 RINs were generated in January, with 937.62 million D6 RINs reported for February.

During the first three months of 2013, more than 2.996 billion D6 RINs were generated for ethanol production, with 18,434 generated for biodiesel and 488,045 generated for non-ester renewable diesel.

Nearly 47.34 D5 advanced biofuel RINs and 195.47 D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were also generated in March. During the first three months of the year, nearly 128.1 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated for ethanol.

More than 2.996 billion D6 RINs were generated by domestic producers during the first three months of 2013, with 488,045 generated by foreign producers. No D6 RINs have been generated by importers in 2013. Nearly 122.9 D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated by importers, with 9.3 million generated by domestic producers.

As of the close of March, the EPA estimates that nearly 461.61 million assigned D6 renewable fuel RINs and 2.398 billion separated D6 RINs were available. During the first three months of 2013, EPA data shows a total of 2.997 D6 RINs were generated, with 50,911 assigned and 6.98 million separated D6 RINs retired. An additional 18.4 assigned D6 RINs and 112.08 separated D6 RINs are listed as locked but unretired.

Nearly 3.57 billion RINs have been generated in 2013 across all D codes, with 8.61 million retired, 145.36 million locked but unretired and 3.41 billion available and unretired. The total volume of unretired RINs, both locked and available, was nearly 3.56 billion as of the close of March.
