Group asks Senate to consider biofuels bills while addressing oil spill, energy legislation

In a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, three ethanol industry groups have asked that legislators keep biofuels in mind. Genera Energy plants switchgrass along interstate

Genera Energy LLC, a Tennessee-based renewable energy company, has begun working with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) to plant switchgrass. Indiana releases ethanol impact study

With 980 MMgy of ethanol production capacity making up 7 percent of the U.S. ethanol industry, the role of ethanol in Indiana seems pretty important. A new study by Informa Economics Inc., an agricultural and commodity/product market research firm, shows that for economic growth in the Hoosier state, the ethanol industry is actually second to none. "The overall ethanol industry is the single most important factor supporting the growth of agricultural production in Indiana," the report said.READ MORE

Fiberight to build MSW demonstration plant

By the end of August, Fiberight LLC hopes to have its second municipal solid waste (MSW) to cellulosic ethanol demonstration plant up and running. The company, which completed its first plant in Blairstown, Iowa, in May, will install a second demonstration plant in Lawrenceville, Va., the current location of the company's pilot plant. Fiberight is working with CleanTech Biofuels Inc. at hte Lawrenceville plant.READ MORE

Bionol ethanol plant hits snag

Bionol Clearfield LLC, a 100 MMgy ethanol plant that started producing ethanol early this year, is headed to arbitration to straighten out the details of a contract with Getty Petroleum Marketing Inc. Just over two months into a 5-year contract, Bionol said Getty breached that contract.READ MORE

Poet completes purchase of 27th ethanol plant

Poet LLC is adding to its total production capacity with the purchase of a 90 MMgy ethanol plant. The Cloverdale, Ind., plant, previously operated by Altra Biofuels, will reopen after Poet installs new processes and technology.READ MORE
