E3 BioFuels auction set for DecemberThe E3 Biofuels LLC ethanol production facility in Mead, Neb., will be auctioned off on an "as-is, where-is" basis according to court documents released November 9. The auction will be held Dec. 11, with bids due on Dec. 2. E3 filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in late 2007 and began seeking investors for the 25 Mmgy facility. Unfortunately, E3 was forced to seek investors during 2008, when corn prices were at their peak and investors were scarce and the company was unable to secure the capital it needed to continue operating.READ MORE Algenol and The Linde Group partner to develop carbon dioxide, oxygen management processesFlorida-based Algenol Biofuels LLC and The Linde Group recently agreed to collaborate in a joint development project that will seek to indentify the optimum management of carbon dioxide and oxygen for Algenol's algae and photobioreactor technology. Algenol has developed a photosynthetic algae technology in which proprietary algae cells essentially act as tiny ethanol factories. The algae consume carbon dioxide and sunlight, directly secreting ethanol.READ MORE Western Biomass Energy receives BCAP fundingWyoming-based Western Biomass Energy LLC, a company that is majority owned by KL Energy Corp., has been selected to participate in the USDA's Biomass Crop Assistance Program. The purpose of the program is to support the establishment and production of certain eligible crops that will be converted into bioenergy products, such as ethanol, in selected BCAP project areas. The program provides funding to assist agricultural and forest owners and operators with the collection, harvest, storage and transportation of eligible materials for use in biomass conversion facilities.READ MORE His Royal Highness Prince Joachim inaugurates InbiconOn Nov. 18, HRH Prince Joachim inaugurated one of the world's first and largest bioethanol plants in Kalundborg in Denmark, where ethanol will be produced on the basis of straw. The majority of questions from ethanol producers focused on ethanol as a source category, the use of flow meters to measure GHGs and how carbon dioxide will be required to be measured.READ MORE Poet reduces cost of cellulosic ethanol productionPoet LLC recently announced it has reduced the per-gallon cost of cellulosic ethanol production by $1.78 during the first year of operation at its Scotland, S.D.-based pilot-scale production facility. According to the company, the cost reductions achieved during their first year of operating the pilot plant have exceeded expectations. Reductions in energy usage, enzyme costs, raw material requirements and capital expenses reduced the per-gallon cost of cellulosic ethanol from $4.13 to $2.35 during this time.READ MORE |
