Jamaica may ban MTBE

By | March 01, 2006
According to Oil and Petroleum Information System (OPIS), Jamaica plans to launch a pilot program May 1 that mandates government vehicles to use E10. If the pilot program is successful, the government plans to phase out MTBE by the end of 2008. Jamaica's state-owned oil company Petrojam recently reopened a 40 MMgy ethanol plant in Kingston with the goal of exporting the renewable fuel to the United States. However, if MTBE is banned, the company will likely be producing ethanol for domestic use.
