The National Corn-to-Ethanol Research Center (NCERC) and Siemens Energy & Automation Inc. recently entered into a 10-year agreement with intentions to expedite the growth of alternative fuels technologies. Siemen's SIMAATIC PCS 7 distributed control system and instrumentation is being used at the NCERC to help validate near-term technologies, ultimately enhancing the economics and sustainability of ethanol production. Over the 10-year partnership, hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of equipment, software and on-site simulation training will be provided to the NCERC by Siemens. Two-thirds of all U.S. ethanol plants built since 2000 have been outfitted with Siemens process automation systems.
