The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager at Aztalan Bio is a full-time leadership position responsible for overseeing environmental, health, and safety programs at the company’s biorefinery in Johnson Creek, Wisconsin. This role ensures compliance with applicable regulatory requirements while promoting a strong culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and continuous improvement throughout the facility. The EHS Manager establishes and communicates EHS goals, develops strategies to maintain a safe and healthy workplace, and creates and maintains comprehensive safety standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines aligned with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Key responsibilities include monitoring changes in EHS regulations and communicating requirements to leadership, updating safety practices and documentation as needed, and developing and implementing employee safety training programs. The EHS Manager oversees compliance with environmental requirements related to the facility’s Title V air permit, wastewater, groundwater, and stormwater programs and ensures the timely completion of required safety, environmental, and sustainability reporting to external agencies. The position also manages facility safety initiatives, including the plant safety committee, safety awareness programs, and employee incentive programs, while conducting regular EHS inspections and audits to identify and address potential risks. The EHS Manager is also responsible for overseeing workplace incident and injury reporting, investigations, and recordkeeping, as well as assisting with workers’ compensation claims and the Return-to-Work program. The role manages corrective and preventive actions to ensure issues are addressed and resolved in a timely manner, maintains required EHS records, and evaluates and procures appropriate safety equipment as needed. Through close collaboration with facility leadership and employees, the EHS Manager helps ensure Aztalan Bio maintains a safe, healthy, compliant, and environmentally responsible workplace.

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field, with a master’s degree preferred, along with a minimum of five years of EHS experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment. Candidates must remain current with required ongoing EHS training, including a minimum of 40 hours annually. Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, is required, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills for effectively working with employees and leadership at all levels of the organization. The successful candidate must be able to gather, interpret, and analyze information from regulations, industry bulletins, research, and other sources and effectively communicate relevant information through training, reports, presentations, memos, and other appropriate methods. Strong analytical and investigative skills are also required to assess workplace situations, interpret applicable standards, identify potential concerns, and recommend corrective actions or improvements to facility systems and the work environment.
