On May 5, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue hosted a town hall on pressing issues concerning agriculture, renewable fuels, and rural America at the farm of Iowa Renewable Fuels Association member Bill Couser, near Nevada, Iowa. IRFA President Eamonn Byrne and Executive Director Monte Shaw also attended.

“It is encouraging to see in only his second week on the job, Secretary Perdue is pursing input from farmers, renewable fuels producers, and other stakeholders directly impacted by the decisions his agency will make,” said Shaw following the event. “We especially appreciated his reiteration of support for the Renewable Fuel Standard. For many years, USDA has been a leader in the effort to expand access to higher blends of ethanol and biodiesel and it is clear the new secretary understand how imperative they are for the ag economy. We fully expect he will continue the USDA’s legacy in this area and continue to aggressively pursue greater access to renewable fuels at the pump.”
