For the first time ever, gasoline consumed by American drivers in May contained more than 11% ethanol, on average.
U.S. fuel ethanol production fell by 1% the week ending Sept. 4, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on Sept. 10. Stocks of fuel ethanol were up nearly 15 while exports expanded by more than 41%.
The U.S. exported 199.5 million gallons of ethanol and 1.1 million metric tons of distiller grains in July, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on Sept. 3. Exports of both products were up when compared to July 2025.
Total operatable U.S. biofuel production capacity was at 25.299 billion gallons per year in June, essentially unchanged when compared to the previous month, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on Aug. 31.
Blending ethanol into the U.S. fuel supply has helped to substantially lower gasoline prices during the Iran conflict, a new study for the RFA shows. The study concludes that the average E10 cost savings advantage has been 38 cents per gallon.
