Brazil’s Ministry of Mines and Energy on March 17 announced that tests conducted by Mauá Institute of Technology&nbsp;have demonstrated the technical viability of adopting an E30 blend of fuel. The country’s current blend is E27.According to information released by the government, the move from E27 to E30 would prevent the import of 760 million liters (200.78 million gallons) of gasoline annually while reducing retail fuel costs and boosting Brazil’s domestic ethanol industry. It would also reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by an estimated 1.7 million metric tons per year.The E30 tests were conducted as part of the implementation of Brazil’s Fuel of the Future Law. The law, adopted in 2024, establishes guidelines for the decarbonization and modernization of Brazil’s energy mix. The law allows the ethanol content of gasoline to be increased to up to 35% so long as technical feasibility is proven.&nbsp;&nbsp;Following results of the E30 testing, the ministry indicated a proposal to update Brazil’s gasoline blend to E30 is expected to be submitted to the National Energy Policy Council later this year.&nbsp;UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, has spoken out in support of adopting E30. Government estimates currently show the move from E27 to E30 would boost domestic ethanol demand by 1.5 million liters annually.&nbsp;
