UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, has announced sugarcane processing was down significantly during the second half of December. Ethanol production was down only slightly due to high levels of corn ethanol production.
Brazilian ethanol producer Raizen on Jan. 17 announced its pilot-scale second generation ethanol plant in Piracicaba, São Paulo, will discontinue recurring operations on April 1 and transition to a testing and R&D facility.
LanzaJet on Jan. 22 announced the selection of the site for its next production facility, Project Speedbird, in Teesside’s Wilton International. The U.K.-based facility will have the capacity to produce 30 MMgy of SAF and renewable diesel.
Lallemand has appointed Justin van Rooyen as the president and general manager of Lallemand Biofuels & Distilled Spirits, replacing Angus Ballard, who will become senior vice president and special advisor at the Lallemand Group level.
The Brazilian development bank (BNDES) on Jan. 14 approved $480 million in financing for project that will boost sugarcane ethanol production at a facility in south-central Brazil by 22.45 MMgy per year and boost biomass energy capacity by 34 MW.
