Iowa lawmakers are continuing to press President Joe Biden and the U.S. EPA to allow year-round E15 sales during the summer 2024 driving season, via both the Midwest E15 rule and emergency waivers.&nbsp;Reps. Zach Nunn, R-Iowa; Randy Feenstra, R-Iowa; Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa, and Mariannette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa, and Sens. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, on Feb. 27 sent a letter to EPA Administrator Regan expressing concern over the agency’s Feb. 22 decision to delay implementation of the Midwest E15 petitions until the summer 2025 driving season.&nbsp;Eight Midwestern governors, led by Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, petitioned the EPA in April 2022 to allow year-round E15 sales within their states. While the agency was required under statute to respond to such requests within 90 days, a final rule implementing the requested change wasn’t issued until February 2024, with an implementation date pushed to April 2025.&nbsp;“This delay in permanent, year-round E15 sales punishes American families and farmers who have already faced record inflation, skyrocketing fuel prices, and uncertainty in the market as a result of this Administration’s economic policies,” the lawmakers wrote. “The Administration’s continued delays in its decision-making and implementation date put the hardworking farmers who feed and fuel this nation last.&nbsp;“As the Congressional delegation for the nation’s top ethanol producing state, we request, once again, that the EPA immediately implement its rule to ensure E15 is available year-round no later than March 31, 2024,” the lawmakers continued.&nbsp;Grassley, Ernst, Miller-Meeks, Hinson, Nunn and Feenstra on March 1 sent a separate letter to Biden urging the administration to issue an emergency waiver to allow E15 sales to continue on a nationwide basis this summer. Such emergency waivers were issued to allow summertime sales of E15 in both 2022 and 2023.The letter cites continued impacts created by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and reduced crude oil production from OPEC and 10 other major oil producing countries as factors supporting an emergency waiver. “The summertime sale of E15 has supported farmers, created and sustained jobs, reduced our dependence on foreign oil, and given consumers a choice at the pump,” the lawmakers wrote.&nbsp;A full copy of the Feb. 27 letter is available on Nunn’s <a href="https://nunn.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/nunn.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/e15%20Letter.pdf">website</a> while a full copy of the March 1 letter is available on Grassley’s <a href="https://www.grassley.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/ia_delegation_to_biden_-_emergency_e15_waiver.pdf">website</a>.
