The U.K. Department of Energy and Climate Change has released third quarter energy statistics, reporting the share of liquid biofuels consumed in road transport fell from 4.2 percent during the third quarter of 2014 to 3.3 percent during the third quarter of 2015. Biodiesel consumption was 35 percent lower than the same quarter of 2014, while ethanol consumption was down by 3.3 percent.
Data released by the DECC indicates 382 million liters (100.91 million gallons) of liquid biofuels were consumed during the three-month period, down 21 percent from the same quarter of 2014.
Approximately 212 million liters of ethanol were consumed during the quarter, down slightly from 205 million liters during the third quarter of 2014. Biodiesel consumption fell from 273 million liters to 177 million liters during the same period.
Ethanol represented 53.7 percent of biofuels consumption during the quarter, while biodiesel accounted for 46.3 percent. According to the DECC, ethanol accounted for 4.7 percent of gasoline during the third quarter, while biodiesel accounted for 2.4 percent of diesel.&nbsp;
