Gavilon names Ives director, ethanol services

The Gavilon Group, LLC today announced that Randy Ives has joined Gavilon as director of ethanol services. Ives will be responsible for promoting Gavilon's physical margin management services, including ethanol and dried distillers grain with solubles (DDGS) marketing, and corn procurement.READ MORE

Mendota Bioenergy gets $1.4 million grant

A 33 MMgy energy beet-to-ethanol biorefinery being considered for Mendota, Calif., was recently named one of six grant winners by the California Energy Commission. The $6.3 million in funding went to projects that will "reduce petroleum use, cut pollution and provide California jobs by advancing the manufacture of biofuels and the use of alternative fuels and electric vehicles," according to a CEC press release. Also receiving grant money were two biodiesel production projects, electric vehicle components, natural gas from forest waste and biomethane.READ MORE

Poet's Broin says E27 is needed to satisfy RFS

Poet LLC CEO Jeff Broin told attendees at a recent energy conference that the U.S. will need to eventually utilize the equivalent of E27 in the nation's fuel supply in order to meet renewable fuel standard (RFS) targets.READ MORE

Senate bill calls for 1-year extension of VEETC

A U.S. Senate bill released the night of Dec. 9 includes key ethanol provisions. The "Reid Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization and Job Creation Act of 2010" extends the Volumetric Ethanol Excise Tax Credit, the Small Ethanol Producer Tax Credit and the Secondary Tariff on ethanol imports at their current levels through 2011.READ MORE
