Recalled energy drinks to be used for ethanol production


Following a warning from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that adding caffeine to alcoholic beverages is unsafe, makers of alcoholic energy drinks have pulled their products from retail shelves. Many of those drinks will become fuel ethanol.

Flint Hills to acquire final Hawkeye plants


Hawkeye Renewables LLC has agreed to sell its ethanol plants in Iowa Falls and Fairbank, Iowa, to Flint Hills Resources Renewables LLC, an affiliate of Koch Industries Inc. and petroleum refiner Flint Hills Resources LLC.

DOE delivers final E15 test results to EPA


The U.S. DOE has delivered the final results of tests conducted using E15 in vehicles models 2001-2006 to the U.S. EPA, but details on the data are scarce. The EPA is expected to issue its final decision soon.

EPA reviewing comments on proposed E15 label


The U.S. EPA is in the process of reviewing comments received in response to its proposed label for E15. The ethanol industry submitted their own versions of labels while marketers said liability issues can't be resolved by a mere label.

E10 now available for some drivers in Germany, supply increasing


Starting Jan. 1, gas stations in Germany started offering E10, an increase from E5 which has been available since 2007. Although some reports are that the roll out of E10 has been delayed by a month, it's simply coming in slowly.

Qteros, Praj partner on cellulosic process design


Cellulosic ethanol technology developer Qteros Inc. and engineering firm Praj Industries Limited have partnered to develop a process design package for cellulosic ethanol production facilities. Qteros also recently raised $22 million in financing.
