The Biofuels Market Expansion Act of 2011 has been introduced in the U.S. Senate, with a goal of increasing the number of FFVs, blender pumps and renewable fuel pipelines. Sen. Tom Harkin introduced the bill Jan. 25.

Corn Plus garners $12 million tax credit for its fluidized bed


The blenders credit wasn't the only tax credit extended through 2011. Thanks to the Alternative Fuel Mixture Tax Credit, Corn Plus LLLP in Winnebago, Minn., will get a $12 million credit for diverting its syrup to a fluidized bed to provide steam.

Auction Feb. 1 for operating ethanol plant in Rosholt, SD


North Country Ethanol LLC, a 25 MMgy ethanol plant in Rosholt, S.D., will go on the auction block Feb. 1, with sealed bids due by 5 p.m. The company has been operating, even while in bankruptcy proceedings.

Legislation introduced to stop EPA from moving forward with E15


Legislators introduced the "Leave Ethanol Volumes at Existing Levels Act," saying it will "allow for a pause before EPA hastily approves any further ethanol in fuel." Sen. Jim Inhofe and Rep. Michael Burgess said there is need for more studies.

EnergyOne pulls back on groundbreaking at Lake Wales plant


Instead of starting work on a 2 MMgy ethanol plant in Lake Wales, Fla., as was hoped, EnergyOne has announced it is putting the project on hold for an unspecified amount of time due to high corn costs and low stocks plus the subsidy uncertainty.
