IEA finds biofuels contribute to sustainable energy future


A long-term roadmap for biofuels released by the International Energy Administration shows biofuels could comprise 27 percent of the global transport fuels market by 2050, an impressive increase over the industry's current 2 percent share.

AE Biofuels gets grant for co-located cellulosic pilot plant


At the same time AE Biofuels is working to restart a 55 MMgy ethanol plant in Keyes, Calif., it announced approval of a $1.88 million grant to build a 1 MMgy pilot plant that will convert corn and cellulosic feedstocks at the same time.

USDA stops in MN, MI to discuss blender pumps, research grants


The USDA continued its fast-paced, biofuels-focused tour. Secretary of Ag Tom Vilsack met with Minnesota officials at CHS headquarters. Deputy Secretary Kathleen Merrigan toured Michigan State University's cellulosic ethanol pilot plant.

Vilsack: US needs 'significant commitment' to biofuels industry


Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson met with ethanol and biodiesel executives in a roundtable in Iowa. In a press conference that followed, Vilsack reiterated agency support for biofuels.

ND plant sees good future for ethanol, ramps up to 150 MMgy


Tharaldson Ethanol in Casselton, N.D., was built with expansion in mind. Starting up at 120 MMgy in 2008, the plant recently added 30 MMgy to its capacity by adding dryers and debottlenecking fermentation and distillation.
