Bionol Clearfield LLC won't be restarting this fall after all - at least not under the current ownership. On July 20, the plant and two affiliated entities, Bionol Clearfield Holdco LLC and BioEnergy Holding LLC, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

Jury awards Abengoa $48.4 million in lawsuit over 2006 mistake


A mistake by Chicago Title Insurance Co. caused Abengoa Bioenergy to put on hold plans to build a second ethanol plant in Colwich, Kan., and build instead in Madison, Ill. Abengoa says it cost the company $48.4 million and on July 14, a jury agreed.

EU approves first set of biofuel sustainability schemes


The European Union approved the first set of voluntary sustainability schemes for biofuels as required by the Renewable Energy Directive. The seven schemes approved were the first of 25 applications to be received by the commission.
