The most recent annual results from a four-year Iowa State University study on using cover crops between rows of corn reveals yield increases of 5 to 10 percent are possible. It's the best results the research has revealed so far.

Green Plains revenues up $1.5 billion


Green Plains Renewable Energy Inc. announced its financial results for the fourth quarter and full year ended Dec. 31. Net income attributable to Green Plains for 2011 was $38.4 million compared to $48 million in 2010.

USDA lowers corn ending stocks estimates once again


The report lowered estimates for the 2011-'12 marketing year ending stocks on expected higher exports, leaving estimates for corn use for ethanol production unchanged from the previous month at 5 billion bushels.

Poet LLC is upping its stake in the dairy feed market with the introduction of Dakota Gold Low Fat dried distillers grains with solubles (DDGS), which research is showing can be fed to dairy cattle at a higher inclusion rate than traditional DDGS.

ADM to close ND ethanol plant


Archer Daniels Midland Co. announced Feb. 6 that it will close its 30 MMgy ethanol plant in Walhalla, N.D., in April, citing a need to optimize its U.S. corn processing operations as the reason for the closure.
