The ethanol industry responded swiftly and positively to the fact that legal challenges of the U.S. EPA's partial waiver approval of E15 were rejected. The opinion was issued by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

Peru-based Maple Energy plc has completed its first export sales of ethanol to Mitsui & Co. Ltd. under and existing sales and distribution agreement. According to Maple Energy, the first sale consisted of approximately 1.56 million gallons.

Iowa State reserachers grow high-protein fungus with stillage


Initial studies show a fungus grown in stillage resulting from ethanol production could be a good energy feed for pigs and chickens. In separate feeding trials, nursery pigs and chickens have eaten high-protein fungi produced in a pilot plant.

European producer announces plant restart


European ethanol producer Ensus Ltd. announced it will restart its 400 MMly (106 MMgy) plant in Teesside, U.K. The plant began operations in January 2010, but has been idle for the past 15 months. The facility is Europe's largest wheat ethanol plant.

Court rules ethanol plant not entitled to $1.5 million tax break


The Nebraska Court of Appeals has ruled that Bridgeport Ethanol LLC, a 50 MMgy ethanol plant located in Bridgeport, Neb., won't get refunded for the sales and use taxes for manufacturing machinery and equipment purchased when the plant was built.

RFS waiver requests filed, the ethanol industry responds


North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue, Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe, Maryland Gov. Martin O'Mally, and Delaware Gov. Jack A. Markell filed RFS waiver request. The U.S. EPA will open a public comment period and must issue a decision within 90 days.

Mass. law delays rail transport of ethanol through Boston


A new law in Massachusetts will delay allowing ethanol to be transported via train through Boston and several other cities until a public safety study is conducted. The legislation, H. 4371, was signed into law by Gov. Deval Patrick on August 10.

Cosan quarterly financials show decreased ethanol production


Cosan S.A., Brazil's largest sugar and ethanol producer, recently released financial results its first financial quarter of the 2013, which ended June 30. Net revenue associated with Cosan's sugarcane and ethanol segment was down.
