EPA finalizes napier grass, giant reed RFS pathways The U.S. EPA has issued a supplemental final rule under the renewable fuel standard (RFS) pertaining to biofuels made from giant reed and napier grass feedstock, effective June. 28. Tier 3 vehicle emission proposed rule comment period closed The comment period on the U.S. EPA's Tier 3 emission standards for the Vehicle Emission and Fuel standards Program closed July 1. Previously set to end June 13, the comment period was extended 18 days. READ MORE SHARE
	Open Fuel Standard introduced in House of Representatives If it passes muster with legislators, the Open Fuel Standard Act would require that by 2017 and onward, 50 percent of new automobiles operate on non-petroleum fuels such as ethanol and other fuels. READ MORE SHARE
IEA predicts global growth in ethanol production The International Energy Agency has released its second annual Medium-Term Renewable Energy Market Report, predicting that world biofuel production will increase from 1.86 million barrels per day in 2012, to 2.36 million barrels per day in 2018. Ricardo continues work on efficient engines for ethanol blends Ricardo Inc. President, Thomas Apostolos, told attendees at the Ethanol Summit in Sao Paulo, Brazil, that Ricardo's extreme boosted direct injection engine has the potential to deliver best-in-class efficiency for ethanol combustion. EIA data shows increased ethanol production, consumption The U.S. Energy Information Administration published fuel ethanol production and use statistics for the first quarter of 2013. According to the report, production increased significantly in March, reaching more than 1.09 billion gallons. READ MORE SHARE
Poet hires director of federal affairs, to open DC office Poet LLC has hired Rob Walther as director of federal affairs, tasked with opening a Poet office in Washington, D.C. Walther will represent Poet and highlight the value of domestic, renewable biofuel. READ MORE SHARE
MCGA ethanol promotion offers free admission to 9 race tracks The Minnesota Corn Growers Association is sponsoring the Jam the Stands stock car racing events again in 2013. The promotion was such a success last year, MCGA has expanded it to include nine racing tracks within Minnesota. READ MORE SHARE
USDA: Corn acres expand again, July crop conditions good A record corn crop may be in the making. The USDA reported 97.4 million acres of corn planted, up slightly from 2012 and the July 1 Crop Progress report shows 92 percent of the crop as being in fair, good to excellent conditions.
