An internal department of the U.S. EPA will research lifecycle impacts of the renewable fuel standard (RFS), to determine if the EPA complied with reporting requirements and updated the RFS lifecycle analysis information from recent biofuels studies.

Industry slams report that calls for RFS reforms

Poet Biorefining plant uses wood waste to power its facility


Poet Biorefining in Chancellor, S.D., is currently powering its plant with wood waste from Spencer, Iowa. The facility installed a solid fuel boiler in 2006 to offset the cost of fossil fuel and has natural gas as a back-up energy source.

REG acquires various KiOR plant assets for $1.5 million


After receiving court approval, REG Synthetic Fuels is purchasing certain equipment from the bankrupt KiOR cellulosic gasoline and diesel plant in Mississippi, including a 12-million gallon hydrotreating unit, distillation column and tankage.

EIA report summarizes Brazil’s energy sectors, ethanol production


EIA reports Brazil biofuel production in 2014 was 16.7 million tons of oil equivalent, a 5.5 percent increase from 2013. 2014 ethanol production grew 4 percent over the previous, setting a new record at 492,844 barrels per day.
