Enerkem begins commercial production of cellulosic ethanol Enerkem Inc. has begun commercial production of cellulosic ethanol at its commercial-scale facility in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The company has been producing and selling biomethanol since 2016, and is now converting that biomethanol into ethanol. READ MORE SHARE
EIA increases 2017, 2018 ethanol production forecasts The U.S. Energy Information Administration has increased its 2017 and 2018 ethanol production forecasts. The U.S. is now expected to produce 1.03 million barrels of ethanol per day this year, increasing to 1.04 million barrels per day next year. READ MORE SHARE
	Franken drafts Farm Bill Energy Title featuring funding increases On Sept. 7, Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., introduced a package of legislation he hopes will serve as the basis for a new energy section of the next Farm Bill. Senators ask Lighthizer to resolve Brazilian tariff issue A bipartisan group of senators, led by Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, is calling on U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer to work with the Brazilian government to end a recently reinstated tariff on ethanol imports. READ MORE SHARE
Clariant licenses Sunliquid technology to Enviral Clariant and Enviral, an ethanol producer in Slovakia, have signed a license agreement on Sunliquid cellulosic ethanol technology. Enviral plans to develop a commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol plant at its existing Leopoldov site in Slovakia. READ MORE SHARE
UNICA reports increased ethanol sales in late August UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, has released data for the second half of August, reporting increased ethanol sales. Ethanol production during the second half of August was up 3.15 percent, with 1.77 billion liters manufactured. READ MORE SHARE
Flint Hills installs MSC technology at Fairmont, Nebraska, plant Construction is underway at Flint Hills Resources's Fairmont, Nebraska, ethanol plant to install Maximized Stillage Co-Products, a bolt-on technology that will allow the plant to produce a high-protein feed ingredient from distillers grains. CARB to hold workshop on proposed LCFS amendments Sept. 22 The California Air Resources Board has announced plans to hold a public workshop to discuss proposed amendments to the Low Carbon Fuel Standard on Sept. 22. DOE funding helps commercialize promising energy technologies The U.S. Department of Energy announced $19.7 million in funding to help businesses move promising energy technologies from the DOE’s national laboratories to the marketplace.
