EPA opens Section 610 review of RFS The U.S. EPA published a notice in the Federal Register June 24 announcing it has opened a review of the Renewable Fuel Standard under Section 610 of the Regulatory Flexibility Act. A public comment period is open through Aug. 22. READ MORE SHARE
New corn ethanol plant in South Dakota begins operations After four years of construction and planning, Ringneck Energy & Feed’s ethanol plant in Onida, South Dakota has come online. The 80 MMgy plant passed its performance test in early June. Work is ongoing to optimize the facility's operations. READ MORE SHARE
	EPA: More than 31.11 million cellulosic RINs generated in May The U.S. EPA has released renewable identification number (RIN) data for May, reporting that nearly 1.57 billion RINs were generated during the month, including more than 31.11 million cellulosic RINs. READ MORE SHARE
Senators ask EPA to update ethanol science to improve trade A bipartisan group of 11 senators sent a letter to U.S. EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler June 25 urging the agency to update an outdated environmental analysis on ethanol in order to improve foreign sales opportunities. READ MORE SHARE
EPA updates SRE data, 38 SRE applications now pending for 2018 Another small refinery exemption (SRE) application for the Renewable Fuel Standard’s 2018 compliance year has been declared ineligible or withdrawn, according to updated SRE data posted to the U.S. EPA website on June 24. 	Senators urge EPA to block attempts to roll back use of SREs A group of nine republican senators representing U.S. oil-producing and refining states are urging U.S. EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler to block attempts to roll back the agency’s’ use of small refinery exemptions (SREs) under the RFS. Rooney introduces bill to repeal the RFS Rep. Francis Rooney, R-Fla., introduced legislation June 21 that aims to eliminate the Renewable Fuel Standard. Rooney cited the impact of ethanol on boat engines and the U.S. EPA’s rule to allow year-round E15 sales as the reasons for his action. READ MORE SHARE
Wehrum leaves EPA, Isdal becomes deputy assistant administrator U.S. EPA Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation William Wehrum will leave his post at the agency at the end of June. Principal Deputy Assistant Administrator Anne Idsal will become acting assistant administrator for air and radiation. READ MORE SHARE
DOE announces open meeting of biomass R&D advisory committee The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy announced June 24 plans to hold an open meeting of the Biomass Research and Development Technical Advisory Committee on June 26 in Missoula, Montana.
