Coalition challenges EPA on 2018 refinery waivers A coalition of biofuel and ag groups filed a petition Oct. 22 with the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, challenging the process by which the EPA exempted certain unknown small refineries from 2018 RFS obligations. 	SREs addressed during White House cabinet meeting The EPA’s actions regarding SREs were addressed during an Oct. 21 meeting at the White House. Trump directed the EPA to “make sure the small refineries are happy” while USDA indicated farmers will be fine with the plan once they see it implemented. READ MORE SHARE
RFA: New court documents detail rampant EPA abuse of SRE program New court documents show that the EPA inappropriately granted RFS compliance exemptions to certain small refineries that did not even qualify for the waivers, and that there was division within in the Trump administration about its approach to SREs. EPA: 1.61 billion RINs generated in September The U.S. EPA has released renewable identification number (RIN) generation data for September, reporting that nearly 1.61 billion RINs were generated during the month, including nearly 35.25 million cellulosic RINs. READ MORE SHARE
Valero reports Q3 loss for ethanol, profit for renewable diesel Valero Energy Corp. released third quarter financial results on Oct. 24, reporting a loss for its ethanol segment, but a profitable quarter for renewable diesel. CropEnergies reports record quarterly revenues European ethanol producer CropEnergies AG recently announced it achieved revenues of €245 million ($272.03 million) for the fiscal second quarter of 2019-‘20, the three months ended Aug. 31, setting a new quarterly record for the company. Novozymes reports reduced bioenergy sales for Q3 Novozymes released third quarter financial results on Oct. 23, reporting weaker than expected performance. The company cited a difficult U.S. ethanol market and weak global agricultural markets as reasons for the downturn. READ MORE SHARE
Members of Congress urge Wheeler to change SRE proposal Nearly two dozen members of the U.S. House of Representatives sent a letter to U.S. EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler on Oct. 23 urging him to reconsider the agency’s recently SRE proposal and uphold the White House’s commitment to farmers. Ethanol groups call Brazil’s ethanol TRQ a step backward Growth Energy, the USGC and the RFA expressed their disappointment with the news that the Brazilian government amended the recent Aug. 31st rule that raised the quota on U.S. ethanol imports under the tariff rate quota to 750 million liters per year.
