EPA grants request for reconsideration of Title V ethanol rule The U.S. EPA announced Nov. 6 it is granting a request for reconsideration filed by the National Resource Defense Council in March 2009 related to the agency’s exclusion of ethanol plants from Title V permitting requirements under the Clean Air Act. The Andersons reports profitable Q3 for ethanol group The Andersons Inc. has reported its ethanol group was profitable in the third quarter despite a challenging margin environment. The company also announced its Element biorefinery in Kansas began operating in August. READ MORE SHARE

Pacific Ethanol expresses optimism for industry in earnings call During Pacific Ethanol’s third quarter earnings call Nov. 8, CEO Neil Koehler told investors that the ethanol industry experienced one of its worst production markets. Green Plains reports improving margins, progress with Project 24 Green Plains Inc. has reported a third quarter net loss of $39 million due to the low margin environment. The company, however, said ethanol margins are showing improvement and efforts to improve plant operations are continuing. READ MORE SHARE
Trump nominates Brouillette to serve as energy secretary President Trump on Nov. 7 formally nominated current U.S. Deputy Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette to serve as the next secretary of energy. Brouillette will replace current Secretary of Energy Rick Perry if confirmed by the U.S. Senate. READ MORE SHARE
WASDE: Corn use for ethanol reduced to 3.375 billion bushels The USDA lowered its 2019-’20 forecast for corn use in ethanol by 25 million bushels in its latest World Agriculture Supply and Demand Estimates Report, released Nov. 8. STB: RETAC meeting scheduled for Nov. 14 The Surface Transportation Board has announced its Rail Energy Transportation Advisory Committee will hold a meeting Nov. 14 in Paducah, Kentucky, at 8:00 a.m. CST. The meeting is open to the public. READ MORE SHARE
Some states looking to end prohibition of E15 California and New York, two of the largest markets in the U.S. that don't currently allow the sale of E15, are exploring options of allowing retailers to sell the fuel. READ MORE SHARE
