EPA grants request for reconsideration of Title V ethanol rule


The U.S. EPA announced Nov. 6 it is granting a request for reconsideration filed by the National Resource Defense Council in March 2009 related to the agency’s exclusion of ethanol plants from Title V permitting requirements under the Clean Air Act.

Green Plains Inc. has reported a third quarter net loss of $39 million due to the low margin environment. The company, however, said ethanol margins are showing improvement and efforts to improve plant operations are continuing.

President Trump on Nov. 7 formally nominated current U.S. Deputy Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette to serve as the next secretary of energy. Brouillette will replace current Secretary of Energy Rick Perry if confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

WASDE: Corn use for ethanol reduced to 3.375 billion bushels


The USDA lowered its 2019-’20 forecast for corn use in ethanol by 25 million bushels in its latest World Agriculture Supply and Demand Estimates Report, released Nov. 8. The forecasts for corn production, use and ending stocks were also reduced.
