USDA seeks applications for advanced biofuel payment program The USDA’s Rural Business Cooperative Service published a notice on Dec. 18 seeking applications from biofuel producers under the Bioenergy Program for Advanced Biofuels, which provides quarterly payments to producers of qualified advanced biofuels. Trump signs spending bills, tax extenders legislation President Trump signed two legislative packages into law on Dec. 20, avoiding another government shutdown. Forest Service grants license for biomass conversion technology The U.S. Forest Service has granted a license for technology that can efficiently fractionate lignocellulosic biomass to Ontario-based Whispering Green Energy. USDA: No actions under Feedstock Flexibility Program The USDA’s Commodity Credit Corp. announced Dec. 12 that it does not expect to purchase and sell sugar under the Feedstock Flexibility Program for crop year 2019, which runs from Oct. 1, 2019 through Sept. 30, 2020. READ MORE SHARE

Corn use for fuel ethanol at 437 million bushels in October The USDA recently released its Grain Crushings and Co-Products Production report for December, reporting that corn use for fuel ethanol production in October was up significantly from the prior month, but down when compared to October 2018. DOE to fund feedstock monitoring, carbon storage technology On Dec. 19, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) announced up to $20 million in funding to develop technologies to quantify feedstock-related emissions at the field level. READ MORE SHARE
