Canada ratifies USMCA trade agreement


The Canadian Parliament approved the U.S-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) trade agreement on March 13. The trade pact, which replaces the North American Free Trade Agreement, has now been ratified by all three countries.

COVID-19 lowers corn demand, ethanol price


A report from University of Illinois Extension shows weak demand for corn for ethanol use in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Ethanol production will fall dramatically, it predicts, with gasoline consumption expected to be down about 20 percent.

Red Trail Energy to begin drilling well for carbon sequestration


Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., announced March 11 that Red Trail Energy will begin the drilling of a stratigraphic well, designed with the intent to be permitted as a Class VI injection well and used to sequester CO2 from the company’s ethanol plant.

EIA increases 2020 ethanol production forecast


The U.S. Energy Information Administration slightly increased its forecast for 2020 ethanol production in its latest Short-Term Energy Outlook, released March 11. The 2021 forecast, however, was unchanged.

UDSA: US ethanol, distillers grains exports up in January


The U.S. exported 151.23 million gallons of ethanol and 976,688 metric tons of distillers grains in January, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on March 6. Exports of both products were up from the previous month.

USDA: March WASDE maintains forecast for corn use in ethanol


The USDA maintained its forecast that 5.425 billion bushels of corn will be used to produce ethanol during the 2019-’20 crop year in its latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report, released March 10.
