2020 FEW moved to Omaha, date changed to Aug. 24-26


BBI International has announced that the 2020 International Fuel Ethanol Workshop & Expo has been moved due to the outbreak of COVID-19. Originally scheduled for mid-June in Minneapolis, the FEW is now rescheduled to take place Aug. 24-26 in Omaha.

API petitions EPA to revise 2020 RFS rule


The API on April 6 sent a letter to U.S EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler petitioning the agency to reconsider and revise its final rule that set 2020 RVOs under the RFS and the 2021 RVO for biomass-based diesel.

The U.S. Supreme Court is scheduled to consider whether it will review a challenge to the Renewable Fuel Standard point of obligation on May 15. Court documents related to the challenge were distributed to the Justices on April 22.

The Canadian government announced on April 24 it will delay publication of proposed regulations for the liquid fuel class of its Clean Fuel Standard until fall 2020 due to extraordinary circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

ADM idles 2 ethanol plants; Growth Energy calls for federal aid


ADM announced on April 23 it is idling ethanol production at the company’s corn dry mill facilities in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Columbus, Nebraska, due to impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Approximately 90 employees will be furloughed.

Weekly ethanol production remains flat, stocks set new record


U.S. ethanol production fell 1 percent the week ending April 17, to an average of 563,000 barrels per day, according to EIA data. While production is down significntly from February, the recent freefall in production levels seems to be flattening.

Iowa’s E15 sales up 38 percent in 2019


Iowa’s E15 sales grew by 38 percent last year, reaching a record high of 47.4 million gallons, according to data released by the Iowa Department of Revenue in April. Sales of E30 and E85 blends also reached record highs.

EPA: 1.58 billion RINs generated in March


The U.S. EPA has released renewable identification number (RIN) generation data for March, reporting that 1.58 billion RINs were generated during the month under the Renewable Fuel Standard, including 34.4 million cellulosic RINs.

UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, recently announced mills in the south-central region of the country produced a record volume of ethanol during the 2019-’20 harvest season, which began April 1, 2019, and ended March 31, 2020.
