Ag groups ask Congress to address GHG emissions from annual crops The Biogenic CO2 Coalition is asking lawmakers to direct the U.S. EPA to promptly publish a rule that states neither agricultural biomass nor woody biomass contribute to excess greenhouse gases (GHGs) in the atmosphere. Midwest AgEnergy evaluates options for Blue Flint ethanol plant Midwest AgEnergy Group, the parent company of the Blue Flint, is evaluating alternative thermal energy and utility options after plans were announced to close Coal Creek Station, a power plant that provides water and steam to Blue Flint. US ethanol industry disappointed in new Colombian duties The Colombian Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism (MINCIT) has announced it will impose duties of $0.1997/gallon on U.S. ethanol exports to Colombia. The USGC, Growth Energy and RFA said the duties are unjustified. READ MORE SHARE
Senators urge Trump to protect RFS, reject waiver requests A bipartisan group of 24 senators sent a letter to President Trump on May 7 urging him to uphold the Renewable Fuel Standard and immediately reject the RFS waiver requests filed with the U.S. EPA by several oil state governors last month. EIA: Ethanol production up, weekly ending stocks fall U.S. ethanol production was up by more than 11 percent the week ending May 1 while weekly ethanol ending stocks fell by nearly 3 percent, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on May 6. READ MORE SHARE
US exports nearly 140 million gallons of ethanol in March The U.S. exported 139.93 million gallons of ethanol and 899,730 metric tons of distillers grains in March, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on May 5. Exports of both products were down when compared to March 2019. READ MORE SHARE
USTR report discusses barriers to US exports of ethanol, DDGS The USTR recently issued its 2020 National Trade Estimate, an annual report detailing foreign trade barriers faced by U.S. exporters of goods and services and USTR’s efforts to reduce those barriers.
