House passes bill that includes COVID-19 relief for biofuels


The U.S. House of Representatives on Oct. 1 passed an updated version of the Heroes Act by a vote of 214 to 207. The $2.2 billion COVID-19 stimulus package includes direct support for certain processed commodities, including biofuels.

IRENA: Liquid biofuels accounted for 2.5M jobs globally in 2019


Jobs in the renewable energy sector reached 11.5 million globally in 2019, according to a report released by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) on Sept. 29. Bioenergy accounted for 3.58 million jobs, up from 3.18 million in 2018.

EPA approves efficient producer pathway for Iowa ethanol plant


The U.S. EPA has approved an efficient producer pathway for Pine Lake Corn Processors’ 80 MMgy ethanol plant in Steamboat Rock, Iowa. The approval allows the facility to generate RINs for non-grandfathered volumes of ethanol.

EIA: Ethanol production down 3%, stocks fall by 2%


U.S. fuel ethanol production fell by approximately 3 percent the week ending Sept. 25 while weekly ethanol ending stocks fell by nearly 2 percent, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on Sept. 30.

USDA: US corn ending stocks down 10% from September 2019


The USDA’s NASS released its latest quarterly Grain Stocks report on Sept. 30, reporting that old crop corn stocks on hand as of Sept. 1 were down 2 billion bushels, or 10 percent, when compared to the same period of 2019.
