Pacific Ethanol to change focus, sell or repurpose idle plants


Pacific Ethanol Inc. on Oct. 26 announced a strategic realignment to focus on specialty alcohols and essential ingredients. As part of that effort the company said it will sell or repurpose its three idle ethanol plants and change its name.

Greenfield Global acquires Corn Plus ethanol plant in Minnesota


Canada-based Greenfield Global Inc. announced on Oct. 21 it will acquire the Corn Plus fuel ethanol facility, which is located in Winnebago, Minnesota. The 48 MMgy facility has been idle since September 2019.

Aemetis begins production of dairy biogas


Aemetis Inc. has begun producing dairy biogas from the first two dairies in a 17 dairy digester biogas project. The below-zero carbon intensity gas is initially being utilized for the production of ethanol at the company's plant in Keyes, California.

Oil state senators ask EPA to undermine the RFS


Several oil state senators are urging the EPA to set the 2021 RVO for renewable fuel below the E10 blend wall. They also called for cellulosic, advanced biofuel, and biomass-based diesel RVOs be set at the level of demonstrated domestic production.

Valero reports strong Q3 for renewable diesel, ethanol


Valero Energy Corp. released third quarter financial results on Oct. 22. The company reported an overall net loss. Results for the company’s ethanol and renewable diesel segments, however, were improved when compared to the same period of 2019.

EIA: Ethanol production down 3%, stocks down 1%


U.S. fuel ethanol production fell by nearly 3 percent the week ending Oct. 16, while weekly ending stocks fell by more than 1 percent, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on Oct. 21.

EPA: 1.63 billion RINs generated in September


The U.S. EPA released data in mid-October showing 1.63 billion RINs were generated under the Renewable Fuel Standard in September, up from 1.61 billion generated during the same month of last year.

Two Iowa biofuel groups and Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, on Oct. 22 spoke out against legislation introduced on Oct. 20 that aims to eliminate sales of internal combustion engine vehicles that can be fueled with biofuels.

NCGA: E15 testing to start in California


The National Corn Growers Association, along with state corn organizations, ethanol partners and the auto industry, are working with the California Air Resources Board to conduct E15 vehicle testing at the University of California at Riverside.
