Members of the House Biofuels Caucus, led by Rep. Dusty Johnson, R-S.D., on April 8 sent a letter to EPA Administrator Michael Regan urging the agency to prioritize the Renewable Fuel Standard and the use of higher blends of ethanol and biodiesel.

Indiana governor urged to veto anti-ethanol E15 labeling bill


The Indiana House and Senate have each passed a bill that aims to implement additional labeling requirements for fuel pumps that sell E15. Representatives of the ethanol industry are urging Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb to veto the bill.

Washington Senate passes Clean Fuel Standard bill


The Washington Senate on April 8 voted 27 to 20 in favor of H.B. 1091, a bill that aims to establish a state-wide CFS. The amended legislation will now be considered by the House, which passed an earlier version of the bill on Feb. 27.

The USDA increased its forecast for 2020-’21 corn use in ethanol in its latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report, released on April 9. The outlook for feed and residual use was also increased.

The DOE on April 8 announced it will award $61.4 million to support the development and demonstration of bioenergy projects, including those focused on marine and aviation fuels, cellulosic sugars, separations technologies, wood heating, and RNG.

EIA: US fuel ethanol production up 1%, stocks down 2%


U.S. ethanol production was up approximately 1 percent the week ending April 2, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on April 7. Fuel ethanol stocks fell more than 2 percent.

USDA: US ethanol exports reach 102 million gallons in February


The U.S. exported 101.67 million gallons of ethanol and 779,324 metric tons of distillers grains in February, according to data release by the USDA on April 7. Exports of both products were down when compared the previous month and February 2020.

EIA maintains 2021, 2022 ethanol production forecasts


The U.S. Energy Information Administration maintained its 2021 and 2022 ethanol production and consumption forecasts in its latest Short-Term Energy Outlook, released April 6. Summer gasoline consumption is expected to be up 13.2 percent in 2021.
