USDA to provide $700 million in COVID-19 relief for biofuels


The USDA announced on June 15 it will provide $700 million in COVID-19 relief to biofuel producers as part of the Pandemic Assistance for Producers initiative. The agency said the programming is planned for implementation within 60 days.

The Biden administration has signaled its intent to issue a notice of proposed rulemaking to develop post-2022 RFS regulations before the end of 2021. A proposed rule to set annual RFS RVOs for 2021 and 2022 is expected to be released in July 2021.

The U.S. EPA has released data showing nearly 1.71 billion renewable identification numbers (RINs) were generated under the Renewable Fuel Standard in May, up from 1.26 billion generated during the same month of last year.

The U.S. consumed a record 12 percent of renewable energy in 2020, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on June 16. Biofuels announced for approximately 17 percent of renewables.

The Minnesota House of Representatives on June 19 voted 112 to 20 to pass an omnibus agriculture bill that includes $6 million to support the development of biofuel infrastructure to supply E15 blends of fuel.

EIA: Ethanol production up 4%, stocks up 3%


U.S. fuel ethanol production fell by nearly 4 percent the week ending June 11, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on June 16. Weekly ending stocks of ethanol were up more than 3 percent.

Biofuel groups ask EPA to resist calls for RFS waivers


Fuels America, NFU, Growth Energy, RFA, NCGA, NBB and ABBC on June 17 sent a letter to U.S. EPA Administrator Michael Regan and National Economic Council Director Brian Deese urging them to resist calls by the oil industry to waive or weaken the RFS.
